Use high school classes as of opportunity explore career possibilities and learn as much as possible about the subjects that relate to your chosen career path. Do not just randomly choose classes, think about which classes will help learn about the careers that interest you.

It is also important to get involved in activities that you can do to increase your awareness of careers, and help you gain skills that you will need in the future.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Volunteer – by volunteering at an organization that is related to your career interests then you can gain experience, learn about the work environment and job opportunities that are available, as well as give back to your community.
  • Join a Club – being in a club helps connect you with other people the have similar interests. This gives you the chance to learn from each other. It is also a good way to develop skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork.
  • Play sports – playing sports not only helps you stay physically fit, but also help you develop skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem solving
  • Get a Part-Time Job – again this allows you to gain experience, as well as learn about the work environment and job opportunities that are available.


As an added bonus, participating in activities makes you more appealing to many colleges and may make you eligible for more scholarships.
